Work is not my life but it is surely an important part of my life. It has this amazing gripping-quality that it sticks to you when you work on what you love. And when you have goals, milestones and responsibilities, it is surely a fun ride. There are days when you are curious, enquiring, answering, defending, questioning, assigning, working, grouping, I can go on. As we move deep into these days, we gradually retreat from our personal interests and it's this that has happened to me.
My blog was dormant for some time. Well, I had a few drafts but these were not fine tuned and with mind totally occupied with work, it was working logically more than creatively. But with the go-live of our project (that went very well to all of our satisfaction), I feel FREE!!! FREE!!!
Now I will have time to write, to read books, to watch movies, to go shopping, to read my blogger friend's blogs (I apologize I was too caught up and did not reply), to just lie and sleep, to do all the things that were pushed behind in the past few months... Its like this, you are so worked up in your basement, your final work in front of you, complete, satisfied, you just need some sleep and relaxing holiday...and as you look up, you see the door at the end, bright with light...inviting. And you take a step towards it, brimming with satisfaction and ready for your other life...
What is freedom?
Freedom is a free mind,
While you work,
And while you play.
Feel like sayin...Cheers!
OMG Megha I'm in the same boat. 'It has this amazing gripping-quality that it sticks to you when you work on what you love' - SO TRUE.
ReplyDeleteThere is this wonderful quote "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." And I have been thinking about it a lot lately, because when I get caught up in the pace - I forget to eat, sleep, and even other people.
It's the best feeling in the world! :-) :-)
You are absolutely right!!! If you don't love your work, then life becomes hell, after all we are 9 hours on it....and for IT, more than that...
DeleteGlad I have company :)
Would like to read you more now :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear :) Thanks for coming back even I was not around to read and write...
DeleteYou know, we're never free, it is always an illusion. When we start loving our work, it just keeps on growing. We make it grow :)
ReplyDeletePerhaps, take a breather and prepare for the next round.
Cheers,
Blasphemous Aesthete
You think so?
DeleteWhat I feel is I have responsibilities, but I don't feel bounded...I do it by choice, I think that's what I call free.
But I know exactly what you are talking about. I have seen people (specially Americans) who don't see the think line between personal and professional life...it merges and then personal life shrinks...workoholics...sometimes I think ..what will happen when these guys retire, they don;t 'know' any life other than work. I think its all about balance.
Glad you are back. You were missed.
ReplyDeleteLearn to love your work. Or atleast make peace with it. No other way out :)
